An early Newcastle goal sparked a dominant response from the Hammers, who roared back to claim a decisive victory and three crucial points.

LONDON – West Ham United showcased their character and quality on Sunday, overturning an early deficit to defeat Newcastle United 3-1 in a pulsating Premier League clash. The win provides a significant morale boost for the team and their fans, marking a long-awaited return to winning ways at the London Stadium.

The home side’s resilience was tested immediately when Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy capitalized on a counter-attack to score in the 4th minute. Rather than falter, West Ham used the setback as a catalyst, controlling the tempo and creating the majority of chances for the remainder of the match.

From Despair to Delight: A First-Half Transformation

The momentum began to shift decisively in the 35th minute. Brazilian international Lucas Paqueta leveled the score with a magnificent long-range strike that left the Newcastle goalkeeper with no chance.

West Ham then seized the lead in dramatic fashion just before halftime. Under pressure from a relentless Hammers’ attack, Newcastle defender Sven Botman inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

A Commanding Second Half Seals the Deal

Newcastle emerged for the second half with three substitutions, but the changes failed to ignite a comeback. West Ham remained the more threatening side, with a goal from Freddie Potts ruled out for a narrow offside.

The victory was finally put beyond all doubt in stoppage time. Midfielder Tomas Soucek demonstrated his poacher’s instinct, reacting first in a goal-mouth scramble to tap the ball in and secure a well-deserved 3-1 win for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men. The result lifts the Hammers and injects new optimism into their campaign.
