Sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure project with local partners FPT and Viet Thai Group aims to establish Vietnam as a Southeast Asian tech leader.

Abu Dhabi-based technology conglomerate G42 will lead a $1 billion investment to build Vietnam’s sovereign artificial intelligence and cloud computing capabilities, in a landmark deal set to accelerate the country’s transformation into a regional tech hub.

The partnership, formed with Vietnamese giants FPT Corporation and Viet Thai Group, will deploy advanced AI infrastructure across three data center locations in Vietnam. The initiative is designed to provide high-performance computing services for government and private sector use while ensuring national data sovereignty.

“This agreement represents a new model for national AI transformation — one built on sovereignty, partnership, and purpose,” said Ali Al Amine, Chief Commercial Officer of G42 International. “It enables Vietnam to harness AI’s full potential while maintaining digital independence.”

The project extends beyond physical infrastructure to include nationwide AI skills training and workforce development programs aimed at accelerating adoption across government, industry, and academic institutions.

Vietnam, which has prioritized technological self-reliance and digital economic growth, views the partnership as critical to its ambition of becoming an AI-native society.

“Vietnam clearly understands that it cannot move forward alone,” said Dr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation. “In semiconductors, AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, we need strategic alliances with partners we can trust.”

The consortium now enters an implementation phase involving regulatory approvals, site development, and workload distribution planning. The investment is projected to generate significant economic impact through job creation, infrastructure development, and enhanced regional competitiveness.

“This initiative positions Vietnam at the forefront of AI-driven economic development in Asia,” said David Thai, Chairman and CEO of Viet Thai Group.

The deal follows G42 CEO Peng Xiao’s recent announcement at the World Economic Forum of plans to deploy one billion specialized AI agents worldwide, highlighting the company’s expanding global tech infrastructure ambitions.
