Paul Thomas Anderson takes home Best Director as ‘Sinners’ secures four wins; Jessie Buckley wins Best Actress for ‘Hamnet’ at the 98th Academy Awards.
HOLLYWOOD, CA – The 98th Academy Awards wrapped up Sunday night with One Battle After Another emerging as the night’s dominant force, securing six Oscars including the coveted Best Picture trophy.
The epic feature from director Paul Thomas Anderson proved to be a favorite with the Academy, earning Anderson his first Best Director win for the film. The movie also collected awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, solidifying its place as the evening’s biggest winner.
However, the race for Best Actor provided one of the night’s biggest moments, with Michael B. Jordan taking home his first Oscar for his transformative performance in Sinners. The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, performed exceptionally well, walking away with four awards in total. Coogler himself won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the project.
In the Best Actress category, Jessie Buckley was awarded for her critically acclaimed role in Hamnet. The supporting acting categories saw Amy Madigan win for Weapons, rounding out a strong showing for independent dramas this year.
On the international stage, Norway’s Sentimental Value was named Best International Feature Film, while the animated feature award went to the vibrant Kpop Demon Hunters. The documentary prize was awarded to the impactful Mr. Nobody Against Putin.
