Engineer Hossam Sadiq Khalifa died while on duty at Habshan facilities; four others injured as regional conflict continues to threaten Gulf energy infrastructure.

ABU DHABI / CAIRO – Egypt is mourning the loss of a senior engineer killed in a fire at Abu Dhabi’s Habshan gas facilities, after debris from a successful air defence interception sparked two separate blasts at the site.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed that an Egyptian national tragically lost his life in the incident. Emergency response teams acted quickly to bring the fires under control, though authorities reported that the facilities sustained significant damage.

    Engineer identified

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals has identified the deceased as Engineer Hossam Sadiq Khalifa, Assistant General Manager of Quality at Petrojet Company – UAE Branch. He lost his life while performing his duties at the site.

The ministry extended its deepest condolences to his family, honouring his “dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment,” describing him as a “prominent son and a distinguished staff” member of the Egyptian oil sector.

    Minister offers support

Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Engineer Karim Badawi, extended his condolences to Khalifa’s family, his colleagues at Petrojet, and all oil sector workers, emphasizing full support for the bereaved family.

    Four others injured

The incident also left four others with minor injuries, including two Egyptian and two Pakistani employees, the statement confirmed. All received medical treatment and have since been discharged.

    Previous incident at Habshan

Earlier, on March 19, the Habshan gas facility was temporarily shut after missile debris fell following successful interceptions. No injuries were reported at that time. On the same day, Abu Dhabi’s Bab field was also struck.

The latest death underscores the human toll of the widening regional conflict, as air defence operations in the Gulf increasingly put civilian infrastructure and foreign workers at risk.
