The phone owner contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and launched an investigation
A Dubai resident whose smartphone vanished from his home managed to trace it using modern tracking technology, helping police uncover a theft involving a part-time domestic worker and a delivery rider who was accused of possessing stolen property.
According to court records, the Arab resident returned home to discover that his smartphone had gone missing after his wife informed him it could not be found inside the house. Suspecting it had been stolen, he immediately activated the ‘Find My Phone’ feature through another device and began monitoring for any signal linked to the missing handset.
Days later, he received an alert showing the phone had been switched on near a restaurant in Dubai. He headed to the location and suspected the device could be with one of the delivery riders working nearby.
With the cooperation of the restaurant management, the phone owner was able to identify a delivery worker who was using the device. When confronted, the rider claimed he had received the phone from a friend to test it before buying it.
The phone owner then contacted police, who arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the source of the device.
Investigations later revealed that a part-time housemaid had stolen the smartphone from the victim’s home before selling it. Authorities referred the delivery rider to the Public Prosecution on charges of possessing stolen property, while the domestic worker was convicted and sentenced to jail for theft.
The case highlighted how digital tracking tools are increasingly helping victims and authorities recover stolen devices and trace suspects involved in theft-related crimes.
