The ‘Citadel’ star joins Hollywood A-listers for 2026 Academy Awards, marking Indian talent’s continued global ascent
Nearly ten years after becoming the first Indian actress to present at the Academy Awards, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is set to grace the Oscars stage once again—this time as part of a powerhouse presenter lineup for the 98th Academy Awards.
The global star confirmed her participation through an Instagram post on Thursday, joining the third slate of presenters announced by the Academy on March 5. The ceremony is scheduled for March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood, airing live on ABC at 7 PM ET (4 AM GST on March 16).
Star-Studded Presenter Lineup
Chopra Jonas will share the stage with an impressive roster of Hollywood talent, including Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Paul Mescal, and Will Arnett. The growing list of presenters also features Adrien Brody, Javier Bardem, Chris Evans, Demi Moore, Kumail Nanjiani, Maya Rudolph, and Zoe Saldaña.
Comedian Conan O’Brien returns as host for the second consecutive year.
A Decade of Representation
When Chopra Jonas first presented at the 2016 Oscars, her appearance was widely celebrated as a breakthrough moment for Indian representation in Hollywood. She attended the ceremony again in 2017 during her transition to international projects.
Since then, the Oscars stage has witnessed increasing Indian presence, most notably Deepika Padukone’s presenting stint in 2023 during the historic win of RRR‘s “Naatu Naatu.” The song’s victory, along with The Elephant Whisperers winning Best Documentary Short, marked a turning point in how Indian cinema engages with the global awards conversation.
Expanding Global Footprint
Chopra Jonas’ return coincides with a busy phase in her career. Her recent action thriller The Bluff performed strongly on Amazon Prime Video, while her upcoming slate includes Citadel Season 2 and her Telugu-language debut in SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, scheduled for April 7, 2027 release opposite Mahesh Babu.
Earlier this awards season, she presented at the Golden Globes alongside K-pop star Lisa, further cementing her cross-cultural appeal.
Record-Breaking Nominations
This year’s Oscars are led by Sinners, which earned a record-breaking 16 nominations—surpassing milestones previously held by Titanic and La La Land. The ceremony promises to be one of the most watched in recent years, with a presenter roster that blends veteran stars with emerging talent.
Beyond the Headline
Chopra Jonas’ inclusion carries deeper significance. Unlike her 2016 appearance, which was often framed as a novelty in Western media, her 2026 return comes as Indian talent increasingly commands mainstream recognition. The shift from “Indian at the Oscars” as an exception to an expectation reflects broader changes in global entertainment consumption and appreciation.
Her placement alongside Hollywood’s biggest names signals that Indian stardom has moved from peripheral acknowledgment to integral presence within the industry’s most prestigious institution.
