ReutersTwenty-seven people have been killed and almost 400 evacuated after a Russian strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv, triggering a fire and a series of explosions.
Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said a further 42 people, including four children, were injured after the Russian drone strike in the Bucha district.
An investigation has been launched into whether ammunition was being stored at the site, where search and rescue operations were ongoing early on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Tkachenko said a 14-year-old was killed in a separate attack in the Boryspil district as President Volodymyr Zelensky reported overnight strikes across several regions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the warehouse strike, saying that more than 300 emergency respondents had been deployed to the strike area.
He said an investigation into potential negligence had begun, writing on X: “The regulations are clear: ammunition must not be stored near houses or other residential buildings. Appropriate conclusions will certainly be drawn.”
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement that its forces had targeted “an ammunition depot” in the Kyiv region village of Myla, which stores “components and launch boosters for FP-1/FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles”.
Zelensky also reported further overnight strikes in the regions of Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia.
“Ukraine cannot be alone in finding solutions to protect against such strikes, and I thank everyone who helps with additional support packages and sanctions against Russia,” he wrote on Telegram.
The Ukrainian army said it had shot down 233 Russia unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) overnight into Saturday.
ReutersRussia and Ukraine have been intensifying their attacks in recent months, with Kyiv focusing its operations on Russian economic targets.
Russian online retailer Ozon said one of its logistic centres had been hit in an overnight Ukrainian drone strike.
It said it had also suspended operations at a second logistics centre and evacuate staff “due to the danger in the area”.
The retailer’s facilities in Krasnodar, Dagestan, Stavropol and Adygea were targeted in strikes earlier this week, resulting in several injuries and widespread damage.
Ukraine has for weeks struck sites belonging to Wildberries, the country’s biggest online retailer, describing the firm as a legitimate target because it supplied components to the military, which Moscow denies.
