The strategic hire, drawing on 30 years of experience from HSBC and Deutsche Bank, aims to capitalize on the growing pipeline of ECM opportunities in the MENA region.
In a move to solidify its leadership in capital markets, EFG Hermes has appointed Christopher Laing as the new Global Head of its Equity Capital Markets (ECM) division.
The appointment, effective immediately, places the seasoned banker with three decades of experience at the helm of the firm’s ECM operations from its Dubai headquarters. Laing’s extensive background, built through senior roles at HSBC and Deutsche Bank, is expected to be instrumental in driving the next phase of growth for the franchise.
Mostafa Gad, Global Head of Investment Banking at EFG Hermes, highlighted the strategic rationale behind the hire: “Christopher’s three decades of experience, particularly in emerging markets, will be invaluable as we execute our strategy to deepen our regional roots and deliver superior outcomes for our clients.”
Laing’s career is marked by leading numerous high-profile transactions across global markets. In his new role, he will be tasked with expanding EFG Hermes’ client partnerships and advancing its advisory capabilities.
“I am excited to join EFG Hermes, a firm renowned for its top-tier ECM and equities platform,” Laing commented. “The region is currently a nexus of unprecedented opportunity for governments, issuers, and investors, and I look forward to contributing to its dynamic capital markets landscape.”
This high-profile recruitment underscores EFG Hermes’ continued investment in top-tier talent to reinforce its status as the preeminent investment banking advisor in the MENA region and key emerging markets worldwide.
