Court Hears Suspects in Multi-Million Dollar Louvre Jewelry Theft

French authorities advance prosecution in brazen art heist as recovered jewels remain conspicuously absent.

PARIS – A Paris court convened on Saturday to hear from multiple suspects connected to a multi-million dollar jewelry theft at the Louvre, moving the investigation into one of the year’s most audacious museum robberies forward.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office confirmed the court appearance but did not disclose the precise number of individuals involved. The hearing follows a new wave of arrests this week, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to at least seven.

    A Seven-Minute Million-Dollar Crime

The case centers on a stunningly efficient robbery executed last month. In a bold daytime operation, thieves equipped with power tools breached the famed museum’s security, making off with an estimated $102 million in jewels in just seven minutes.

Earlier this week, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau stated that two initially arrested suspects had been charged with theft and criminal conspiracy after partially admitting their roles. Investigators believe these two men were the ones who physically entered the gallery, while accomplices acted as lookouts outside.

The Missing Loot and Ongoing Probe

Despite the progress in detaining suspects, the investigation faces a significant setback: the stolen jewelry has not been recovered. The latest arrests, which included a key figure described as a prime suspect, were carried out in the Paris region, notably in the northern suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis.

As the judicial process continues, the whereabouts of the priceless jewels remains the central and pressing mystery of the high-profile case.
