Authorities secure improved accommodation in Makkah and Madinah; second phase of training to start after Eid

ISLAMABAD – 19 February 2026 â€“ Pakistan has entered the final phase of preparations for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, with authorities confirming that over 179,000 aspiring pilgrims have received training across 107 cities ahead of their journey to Saudi Arabia.

The religious affairs ministry announced Thursday that 183 training workshops have been completed nationwide, equipping pilgrims with essential knowledge of both spiritual rituals and administrative procedures. Officials emphasize that this instruction is particularly crucial given that many Pakistani devotees are travelling abroad for the first time.

Federal Secretary Religious Affairs Dr Sajid Mahmood Chauhan provided the update following a high-level review meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf in Islamabad. The comprehensive review assessed accommodation arrangements, transport logistics, vaccination requirements and travel documentation.

“A total of 183 training workshops have been conducted in 107 cities to educate pilgrims about Hajj rituals and administrative matters,” Chauhan stated, adding that the second phase of one-day training sessions would commence immediately after Eid-ul-Fitr.

    Enhanced Accommodation Secured

Director General Hajj Abdul Wahab Soomro delivered encouraging news to the meeting, reporting that living arrangements for pilgrims have been improved compared to the previous year.

“Makkah and Madinah accommodation has been secured better than last year,” Soomro told officials, according to the ministry statement.

The meeting was informed that arrangements including accommodation, transport in Mina and Arafat, and food services have entered their final preparation phase. Vaccination campaigns, air ticket bookings and visa processing are scheduled to commence shortly.

    National Representation Emphasized

Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf directed authorities to ensure “ideal arrangements” both domestically and in Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that pilgrims and support staff should serve as positive ambassadors for Pakistan during the pilgrimage.

    Quota Breakdown

Pakistan has been allocated a total Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims for 2026, consistent with the country’s approved Hajj policy. The breakdown includes:

    • 119,210 pilgrims travelling under the government scheme
    • 60,000 pilgrims facilitated through private tour operators

Applications are being processed on a first-come, first-served basis, supported by digitized monitoring systems and coordinated training arrangements.

With one of the world’s largest national contingents participating annually, Pakistan’s Hajj operation requires months of meticulous coordination between Islamabad and Saudi authorities – a logistical undertaking now approaching its critical phase as departure dates draw nearer.
