Key discussions in Kuwait precede strategic role at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, signaling deeper African-Gulf cooperation.

KUWAIT CITY, January 13 — Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye commenced a pivotal Gulf tour on Monday, holding substantive talks with Kuwait’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The meeting, aimed at reinforcing bilateral partnerships, sets the stage for the President’s participation in the high-level Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) later this week.

Accompanied by a high-ranking ministerial delegation covering national transformation, African integration, foreign affairs, finance, and water management, President Faye’s visit underscores a strategic push to deepen Senegal’s economic and diplomatic engagement with Gulf nations. His office emphasized the tour’s objective to “strengthen ties between Senegal and Gulf countries.”

Upon arrival, President Faye was received by Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Naif Mohammed Al-Mudhaf, among other senior officials.

The President will proceed to the United Arab Emirates to join the concluding sessions of ADSW on January 14–15. The forum, a major global gathering focused on sustainable development, energy transition, and climate innovation, offers a platform for Senegal to align with international sustainability agendas and attract investment in its green growth sectors.
